hawaii hiatus

[post by Zander]

During the last semester, I was feeling a little overwhelmed with everything in life and decided to take a break from life. It just so happened that my friend, Jamie, had just moved back to Hawaii and offered for me to come over and take my break with her in a very relaxing atmosphere. She lives on Kauai which is the Garden Island... and it's called that for a good reason!
We went all over the island playing at the beaches
Jamie withstood my awful attempts at surfing... but at least I got up and rode some waves
We hiked to watch the sunrise with Glen and Cocoa (Jamie's Dad and Dog) on the mountain right behind Jamie's house!
We took a barefoot hike up past Hanalei
Hanalei is one of my favorite places we visited! It is a small hippie surf town on the North Shore of Kauai. Just past Hanalei is a place called the blue room. From this picture, you can see why this cave is called the blue room!
I wish my camera could have captured the beauty of it all. The water was glowing as we swam in it! I would recommend this to anyone.

The peace I was looking for was found on this break to the Island of Kauai. I turned off my cell phone-- letting everyone know that I was unavailable with the message, "I'm not quite sure where I am or when I'll get back to you but leave me a message and I'll get back to you eventually" -- It was bliss! While I don't currently live on the island, I can't wait until the day that I do end up living there however far in the future that may be. I mean, just look at this picture and tell me that life would not be wonderful with this in your backyard!

prom 2010

The Timpanogos Prom was this past weekend, and the three Nickle boys living at home all went.

First, here's Bryson just before going to pick up his date. This was his first date ever! Do you like the second pic with the halo of flowers? We do.

Cute, cute Taylor. My mom and I went up to take pictures of her before Bryson came to get her. It was her first date as well!

Her twin, Taryn, came home to get something she forgot so we got a quick pic of the prom-twins together.

Bryson & Taylor about to leave. I can't believe how grown up Bryson looks. Looks, not acts. :)
Handsome Braden just prior to leaving to get his date:

Braden and his cute date, Mickelle.

The first part of the group to arrive:

The almost complete group, and the complete group, respectively.

Beautiful Justin & Suzie. Because they are both beautiful.

Suzie's dad called in the middle of pics to make sure she ate dinner. :)

I'm glad everyone went to Prom!

cabin : president's day weekend

The Nickle Clan + Friends went up to the cabin back in February for the holiday weekend. It was a glorious weekend getaway filled with lots of snowmobiling, movies, games, laughing, the wii, guitar hero, playing pool, hot tub, sleeping, hanging out, eating, enjoying the outdoors & the scenery, etc, etc. It was great!

The Attendees:

Steve
Melanie
Melissa + friends Rachelle, Leslie, & Cory
Zander + roommate Jackson & his girlfriend
Justin
Braden + friend Jack
Bryson

It was a BLAST!

We all took our turn in hot seat for the game "psychiatrist."
{this photo came up when I google searched for "psychiatrist." results not typical. actual game may have varied.}
Have you ever played the game? It's really fun. One person [the "psychiatrist"] leaves the room while the rest of the people [the "patients"] come up with some kind of "disorder" for the psychiatrist to figure out. The person who left the room then comes back in and asks any questions to anyone he wants, trying to figure out the disorder of the round. The patients answer the questions according to the disorder.

For example, if the disorder was to answer with the in a 1,2,3,4,5 sequence, the psychatrist could ask,

"What's your favorite type of pizza?"

Patient: Pepperoni

If the next question he asked was the same, the answer would have to be two words. For example, "Canadian Bacon"

Three words:
"Canadian Bacon Pineapple"

And so on and so forth until the Psychiatrist figures it out.

A few of the favorite disorders that I can remember were:
  • heaven and earth
  • winter, spring, summer, fall [sequential answers]
  • 2 word answer, 3 ", 5 "
  • can only answer with song lyrics
  • answers that don't make sense
  • we don't have a disorder / answer normally
  • disney characters
  • first word of answer begins with first letter of patient's name
  • look at your foot sometime during your response
  • answer like a child
Here are a couple of videos for your viewing pleasure. First, Rachelle getting stuck on the couch. I call her a mashed couch potato.

Second, round two of Bryson's "funny face" series. Maybe next time he'll notice that I'm taking a video. Hopefully not!

I did get some photos too, though. This is what he thought I was doing:

Ah, the cabin. How we do have fun there:

MELISSA NEEDS A NEW ROOMMATE ASAP!

Hey everyone, it's Melissa. I just posted this on my personal blog, but for those of you who are "Eight Nickles" blog-stalkers only, I'm posting it here as well. I would SO appreciate your assistance!!! Here's the post:

I NEED YOUR HELP!

So, those of you who follow my blog know that I have had a bit of a bad roommate situation the past 9 months. {Yes, that was a MASSIVE understatement!}

Well, the problematic roommate is looking to move {all praises}, but can't until her contract is sold. So... I'm looking for a roommate. As in, immediately if possible. If you know anyone who's looking for a place to live in Provo, PLEASE have them contact me as soon as possible.

What the contract includes:
  • Private bedroom {actually, it's two medium sized rooms which are both included in the contract which is for sale. most people use one room for an office and one for the actual bedroom}
  • private bathroom
  • three story townhouse
  • covered parking
  • located on the park {beautiful view!!!!!}
  • it's a bit of an older scene {for Provo standards}; mostly people in their mid-late 20's. Basically if you're over 23 and sick of the close-to-campus scene, this is PERFECT for you.
  • washer/dryer
  • fully furnished
  • huge closets
  • cable included
  • two FABULOUS roommates, both age 25
  • great ward
  • tons of activities going on all the time
  • easy access to the freeway
  • fully decorated, very CUTE townhouse
We are looking for a put-together, fun, cute, nice, common-sense-bearing, normal single lady who comes with your highest recommendations. If you know anyone who may fit the bill and is looking for a place to live in the Provo area, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE let me know asap and I'll get you further details.

Thanks!
Melissa
